Artistic Addition for a Craftsman's House
Coming from an artistic background
themselves, this Windsor Chair maker and
talented Potter were ready to expand their
home to include a Great Room with Kitchen
and Dining area for entertaining and
displaying their beautiful crafts. The white
oak timber frame was stained a dark Mission
Brown in order to have an old world feel.
Views of the valley below will be
appreciated from the long porch on the west
side. The tall Great Room windows on the
gable end will let you appreciate the path
through the woods to the ponds below. This
timber frame design included extra large
curved struts for the dining area. The two
connecting halls boasts faux arched splines
made by Wil in burled walnut, which were
installed during the assembly of the frame
on the deck prior to raising. Wil and Katie
will put their personal touches throughout
the frame with colorful patterned walls and
ceilings and handmade iron balcony railings.
Playful black iron ravens perched on the oak
balcony posts will be one of many
interesting elements to this artful addition
for a home in the mountains of northern
Alabama. Working with such interesting
clients made this project a fun one from
start to finish.
